Though majority of land here has been purchased by the private developers directly from land owners at mutually agreed prices, at least two groups of farmers decided to protest against the earlier deals.
One group has decided to assemble at Jantar Mantar on August 3 and participate in the agitation called by the farmers from across the country while the other group has decided to move the court. The Haryana government has put on hold all ongoing acquisitions.
The farmers are demanding return of the 1,700 acres of land of seven villages near Manesar, which was acquired by the state government in 2006 for developing an industrial estate but later transferred to Reliance Industries Limited for setting up of a special economic zone (SEZ), which is yet to come.
