First Kargil, Zanskar festival begins

To develop tourist infrastructure in Kargil district, different tourism project cost Rs 25 crore- with financial assistance mainly from Centre and also some contribution by the State government- have been started and till now projects worth Rs 17 crores have been completed.

It also includes development of the tourist-related infrastructure in Zanskar and Padum costing Rs 14 crores.

Tourism minister GA Mir said this in his address at the function of the Kargil and Zanzkar Festivals at Kargil on Friday.

Zanskar, the only Buddhist dominated tehsil in Kargil, attracts thousands of foreign tourist for its unique landscape.

Mir said J&K is famous all over the world for its distinct tourism potential and efforts are being made to market vast tourism potential of the State in the world of Tourism.

MoS Information Technology Feroze Ahmad, Chief Executive Councillor, Kargil Hill Development Council, Haji Asgar Karbalie, director Tourism Kashmir, Chief Executive Officers of Kargil and Zanskar Development Authorities besides Officers of district administration were present on the occasions.

Giving details about upcoming tourism infrastructure in Kargil, the minister said that the region possess panoramic landscape and rugged terrain and asked the people of Kargil to show good hospitality so that more tourists visit this place.

The Minister said that for promotion of tourism the government has expended Rs. 32 cr through various Tourism Development Authorities.

He directed the concerned that keeping in view short working season in the region redouble their efforts for time bound completion of tourist facilities in the area.
