Foiling plans by an armed gang from Rajasthan to capture booths during the last phase of Lok Sabha polls in Madhya Pradesh to be held on May 10, police have arrested five miscreants, and seized a large quantity of arms and ammunition from them.
Superintendent of police Rajesh Gupta told reporters here today that three of the six hooligans were nabbed after they entered the state yesterday by crossing Chambal river while the other three fled back to Rajasthan.
He said two persons from Morena -- Rajendra Sharma and Rajesh Kumar of Morena-- who were accompanying the gang members have also been arrested.
The arrested gang members from Rajasthan were identified as Neetish Singh, Rajpal Singh and Jagdish Dhobi, all residents of Dholpur, he said adding that interrogation revealed their plans for booth capturing on May 10.
He said in a drive launched for peaceful elections, police have arrested about 500 people facing warrants while 24 hooligans have been externed from the district.
Gupta said shoot at sight orders have been issued in case of booth capturing on the polling day.
He said the borders with Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh have been sealed and flag march is being done by BSF personnel.
