The Indians were on a roadside changing the flat tyre of a van when they were hit by a speeding car, driven by a Greek national on Wednesday. He died on the spot.

The Indians have been identified as Patel Mahesh Kumar Soma Bhai from Anand Nagar, Gujarat, Mohammed Ehtasamul Haq from Patna, Satyasheelan Sivahari from Kanyakumari, Bilferly Kuriakose and AK Mohammed Ali both from Kerala, the Peninsula newspaper reported.

Naseem Ahmed, their colleague from Bihar, who was also travelling in the van, escaped as he was a little away, helping the others in changing the tyre.

The accident occurred when the Indians were returning to Doha from Ras Laffan in the van.

One of the tyres burst soon after they crossed a roundabout close to the university. The van was being driven by Ali, one of the deceased.

The victims were working for a private company based in Doha, which has operations in Ras Laffan.
