The Brahmaputra and its major tributaries was raising alarmingly due to heavy rains since yesterday in Assam as the worst-hit Dhemaji district remained cut-off from the rest of the country since June 12 following washing away of roads and railway tracks by raising waters of Jiadhoi river at two places of Bhajugaon and Kekuri.

River Jaibhoroli, a major tributary of the Brahmaputra, was flowing above the danger mark and vast areas have been flooded in thickly populated areas of Samdhara, Dikoraijan, Napaam and Borghat.

More than 3.5 lakh people have been affected in eight districts of the state in the first wave of floods, reports from Guwahati said.

In Bihar, with heavy rains lashing northern parts of the state, swollen rivers have inundated a large number of villages in Sitamarhi, Madhubani, East Champaran and West Champaran districts.(more)
