In Varanasi, the water of Ganga submerged the ghats with drains connected with the river overflowing and entering into several nearby houses in Nugwa area. Local residents of Nugwa had started shifting to safer places. The water of Varuna river had also entered into several localities situated near its banks.
The sensitive low lying villages of Dhab area including Mustafabad, Gobarha, Ramchandipur, Rampur etc were facing serious threat due to massive increase in Ganga water.
ADM (Finance), RP Singh, told Hindustan Times on Wednesday that all necessary measures had been taken in view of the flood. “Flood control rooms and out posts have been set up in Varanasi”, he said and added that eight boats had been deployed in low lying villages of Dhab area.
Singh said that the district administration would also ensure proper food supply in these low lying villages.
As per the report of the Central Water Commission, the water level of Ganga was rising in Varanasi and was recorded at 69.420 metre on Wednesday morning which is about 1.842 metre less than the danger mark of 71.262 metre in Varanasi.
In Ballia district, the water level was rising and had crossed the danger mark of 57.615 metre. It was recorded at 57.840 metre on Wednesday morning. CWC predicted that the water level of Ganga will reach to 58.750 metres on Thursday morning.
