Flood waters abated in both Orissa and Rajasthan on Tuesday, enabling state authorities to carry out relief and rescue work.
Airdrops of food rations were discontinued in Balasore and Bhadrak districts in Orissa as the swollen Sudenarekha and Baitarini rivers subsided on Tuesday evening. The administration began the airdrops on Sunday after finding it difficult to distribute relief on boats.
The official death toll is 10. Unofficial figures put it at 20. The flood has affected nearly 13 lakh people in 1,600 villages.
In Rajasthan, thousands of displaced villagers managed to return home after waters receded in the Marwar region.
