Focus on IPR-IT, broadcasting rights

FORMER CHAIRMAN of All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) and Vice-Chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC) Prof SK Khanna will inaugurate a national seminar on 'IPR-IT and Broadcasting Rights' at Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT-A) on Friday. The aim of the seminar is to identify and analyse the relevance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in the IT and broadcasting industry with special focus on Broadcasting Rights.

FORMER CHAIRMAN of All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) and Vice-Chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC) Prof SK Khanna will inaugurate a national seminar on 'IPR-IT and Broadcasting Rights' at Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT-A) on Friday. The aim of the seminar is to identify and analyse the relevance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in the IT and broadcasting industry with special focus on Broadcasting Rights.

Last few years have been witness to how IIIT-A has been successful in bringing together on a common platform experts from different and allied branches to contemplate issues pertinent to IPR violations, infringements and to create awareness about them.

The two-day seminar this year is expected to act as a convergence point for the overall interest of Broadcasters, Up-linking service providers, Terrestrial distributors, Media and program software developers, Federations/Professional Institutions and Policy makers of the nation.

The topics to be covered during the seminar would be Industry wide and will transcend into inter-disciplinary areas.

"Befitting its stature and the earlier set standards, IIIT-A has left no stone unturned in its endeavours in making this seminar a memorable and learning experience for all the participants. With the likes of Keval J Kumar- Director of the Resource Centre for Media Education and Research, GG Saxena - General Manager of Prasar Bharti, Karuna Srivastava – Director of the AIR and Kamalini Dutt – Director Doordarshan, present to address the audience to enlighten them on IPR issues related to broadcasting, one can be rest assured that roots of the difficulties which perturb the broadcasting industry will be made crystal clear," informed the seminar co-ordinator Anurika Vaish.

IIIT-A Director Dr MD Tiwari said that this seminar would identify and analyse the relevance of the IPR in IT and Broadcasting, by bringing together dignitaries renowned for their contribution and performance in their respective fields of expertise.

He said that with participation from all across the country, the three-day IPR seminar is sure to become a major landmark in the rummage to find viable answers in combating the contravention and encroachments of Broadcasting Rights.

Among the speakers who will be presenting their views include former CEO BAG Films Avinash Mehrotra, Director Patents and IPR Cell, MIT Dr RC Tripathi, Madhukar Sinha from Union Ministry of HRD, Supreme Court lawyer Abhishek Malhotra, RY Deshpande from CDAC-Pune, Dr BR Pandey from the UP Council of Science and Technology among others.

IIIT-A has made special arrangements for a bus from its Nehru Science Campus to Jhalwa campus at 1 pm and for returning back at 6 pm for the convenience of the interested participants.
