UNTO DARKNESS
THE POWER supply system in city’s various localities went haywire following heavy rain on Saturday night. Cable faults, transformer damage and wire snapping complaints poured into sub-stations even as some areas went without power through the night. LESA Subhash Park sub-station was waterlogged too resulting in almost a blackout in the Mahanagar area. Power could be restored only around 3 on Sunday.
The entire Railway Colony near Charbagh and the adjoining areas too, suffered an acute power crisis after a local underground cable developed faults after water seepage. The residents’ ‘agony’ lasted a full 16 hours.
In VIP Dilkusha Colony there was no power for over 12 hours after a tell fell in the rain and damaged an overhead electricity line. By the time LESA staff managed a crane to remove the tree and restore power, it was 11.30 am on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party corporator Bantu Yadav and his supporters created a ruckus outside the Jawahar Bhawan sub-station when the power supply to the Narhi area was disrupted due to a fault in the Park Road feeder around 6 pm on Sunday. They gheraoed SDO Srinet. Aware of Bantu’s nuisance value, the LESA officials called up the police who virtually chased away the corporator and his supporters and the supply was also nor malised thereafter.
The ‘crisis’ that began in Hazratganj two days back due to a cable fault ended on Sunday afternoon. Other localities that suffered a power crisis over the weekend included Aminabad, Kaiserbagh, Sitapur Road, Rajajipuram, and Telibagh areas.
