Noted Marathi writer and former Rajya Sabha member Dr Sarojini Babar died here on Sunday. She was 87 and died due to old age ailments.

Babar studied the folk literature of Maharashtra and carried out social research on its various aspects with particular reference to rural women.

A freedom fighter, she was also a nominated member of state legislative council and a close associate of late Vasantdada Patil, stalwart of cooperative movement and former Maharashtra chief minister.
