Suspected Taliban militants ambushed an Afghan army convoy in a southern province, killing four soldiers and wounding two by firing a rocket that destroyed one vehicle, an official said.

The attack happened around 8 pm on Thursday as four vehicles of the Afghan National Army traveled the road between Sangin and Greishk districts in Helmand province, said Gen Rehmatullah Raufi, corps commander for southern Afghanistan.

Army soldiers returned fire but the assailants fled into the night, he said. It wasn't clear if the militants suffered any injuries.
