Four IRB men jailed for gangrape of 40-yr-old

The police said the four persons — L Rojit, 28, S Bijen, 34, Ch. Chomba, 37, and Ksh. Kennedy, 37 — dragged the woman out of a truck she was travelling in and forced her into a small car around 2am on March 22. They then took her to a field near a highway and allegedly raped her.
The police said the four accused confessed to their crime. "The local court had remanded the four accused in police custody for five days since their arrest on March 22. They were jailed today (Tuesday)," said Th. Radheshyam, district superintendent of police.
The woman, a mother of four, is a chilli trader from Khoupam village in Tamenglong district. She was travelling with
her brother-in-law, who was driving the truck loaded with umorok, a local variety of chilli, to sell it in Imphal, when the four accused halted the vehicle midway.
Before driving off with the woman, the IRB personnel also looted 40kg of chilli from the truck and snatched two mobile handsets, one belonging to her brother-in-law, the police said.
Manipur's civil society organisations as well as militant outfits have condemned the gang-rape and demanded strict punishment for the four accused.
