Singh did his higher secondary from a school close to his native house and got BSc degree from a college in his village. Later, he did MSc in chemistry from the Gorakhpur University and did Ph.D from the same university. After arming himself with the necessary qualifications, he got a job in the US. His researches and commitment towards developing new materials led him to make inroads into NASA in 1991. Since then, he has been working as the chief scientist there.
Besides his researches at NASA, he is involved in developing unique materials with a group of Spanish scientists.
According to him, he along with his co-scientists, has succeeded in developing a bio-material with natural wood. The material could safely be used for correcting bone fractures.
Singh said, “It was found that wood had several similarities with human bone and a material prepared called ‘silicon carbide’ can be put to join a broken bone.
Broken bones respond fast to the material without causing any side effects. The material is being applied to animals, like rabbits, and a high degree of success has been recorded during the experiments,” he added.
