Sources said Patil as well as Home Secretary Chitkala Zutshi called Gafoor on Thursday after he told the media that the city police had identified the local moles who had provided logistical support to the terrorists.

The duo sought to know what statements he had made. Later in the evening, Gafoor retracted his statement.

Zutshi told reporters that she and Patil had spoken to Gafoor on Thursday and Friday. However, she remained non-commital when asked if the Home department has sought an explanation from the city police chief. Patil as well as Gafoor chose not to comment.
