The Gail (India) Ltd has started carrying out awareness campaigns on gas conservation among its potential users such as the transport sector and petroleum products dealers to prevent wastage even before the first CNG filling station got officially inaugurated in the state capital.
“We want to drive home the point that even a 5 per cent saving of CNG in the transport sector and at filling stations could eliminate availability constraints of the precious fuel such as CNG in future,” Zonal General Manager of Gail (India) Ltd T K Goon told HT Live.
Even if CNG supplies are to resume in the city in due course, the initial response of the campaign had been very encouraging as drivers of commercialvehicles are willing to listen to what we are trying to convey on gas conservation,” he said.
Gail had been targeting its gas conservation campaign on drivers of public and private transport vehicles besides generating awareness among owners of light vehicles. “We have launched our campaign very quietly by distributing pamphlets, talking to vehicle drivers and using posters on gas conservation in high- density traffic areas in the city.
The campaign is yet to catch up speed as we want to carry out the campaign in a phased manner,” Goon said.
“The moot point being propogated by Gail among potential CNG users is to drive their vehicles on constant speed and most important of all—purchase an authentic CNG conversion kit for their vehicles,” Goon said.
He said petroleum dealers in the city were also being made aware of the need for gas conservation well in advance so that when the filling stations become operational in the city, a high-level of awareness on saving gas would have already been created among CNG retailers.
To cite an example, the washer fitted inside the filling pipe in CNG stations have to be changed after a particular level of gas getting delivered from the station. Such kind of small precautions can save enough gas for use in future.
An interesting aspect of our gas conservation campaign is that Gail will be reaching out to a large number of schools in the city for educating children on saving environment through gas conservation and its effective utilization, he said.
When these children grow up and start using CNG as fuel at their homes or vehicles themselves, they would have sufficient knowledge about the saving a precious fuel from getting out of supply,” Goon added.
