Addressing a press conference, Superintendent of Police Anant Kumar Singh on Tuesday said these snatchers promptly fled the City after committing a robbery and by the time the report was lodged with the police, the three-member gang was already heading towards either Khandwa or Harda by train.
The accused, Brajendra Vishwakarma, 24, Sunil Tiwari, 22 and Mangal, 25, both natives of Harda, used stolen motorcycles to commit the
snatchings and targeted women on roads with lesser traffic. All the accused persons have a criminal record. On the basis of the informer’s tip-off the police caught the gang.
The trio has confessed snatching gold chains from Suman Pamnani and Geeta Bunkar in Ashoka Garden area, Anamika Garg, Shanta Nair, Vimlesh Tyagi and Malka Bora in Piplani area, Abhilasha Jain, Archana Bhaumik, Sangita Kumar and Shobha Agarwal in Govindpura apart from Kusum Jain and Manju Sharma in Aishbagh area.
The trio extensively surveyed the area before committing the crime and often waited for two to three hours before they found a lone woman walking on the road. The police are interrogating the accused. The gold chains recovered have been estimated at around Rs 1.5 lakh.
