THE STATE Government suspended Gorakhpur Development Authority vice-chairman Satyendra Mishra, three former vice-chairmen and three other officials following complaints of corruption and financial irregularities.Sources said chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav gave approval for suspension of Mishra and former V-Cs SBL Saxena, PK Srivastav and Ram Sajeevan. Accounts officer UN Upadhyaya, executive engineer RS Diwaker, assistant engineer MH Khan, Arvind Kumar Singh, Ramesh Chand Srivastav, Sanjay Kumar, Ramhans Singh and RN Singh have also been suspended for alleged involvement in financial irregularities.

According to sources, there were various complaints of irregularities against these officials, including allotting work to contractors close to them. A committee was constituted for conducting an inquiry.
The committee submitted its report against the officials. It was sent to the chief minister for further action.
The suspended officials were blamed for hundred per cent enhancement in tender rates and other works. They ignored all directives and guidelines issued by the State Government in this direction. They were also blamed for destroying files of 42 departments.
Earlier, the principal secretary Urban Development visited Gorakhpur and asked the officials to produce missing files before the probe committee.
Hindustan Times had published reports about corruption in the GDA. Recently, local MLA Dr RMD Agrawal raised the issue before Vidhan Sabha Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey.
The Speaker directed the government to inform the House regarding the initiative taken against the officials. Expressing satisfaction over suspension of officials, Dr Agrawal said it would check corruption in various departments. He said it was his first victory in the New Year against corrupt officials.
