Geelani, 80, arrested from his Hyderpora residence on June 6 for spearheading the agitation against the alleged rape and murder of two women in Shopian, was admitted to Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Soura.
The doctors have examined him and given him necessary medical treatment for diarrhoea, an official spokesman said.
Earlier, the hardline Hurriyat Conference faction said the jailed leader was ill and had been admitted in the ICU.
Expressing concern over the failing health of the separatist leader, an amalgam spokesman on Wednesday asked authorities to release him.
Besides Geelani, over a dozen separatist leaders were arrested by police following the violent week-long protests over Shopian incident which left two persons dead and scores of others injured.
While rest of the separatist leaders and activists were booked under Public Safety Act and sent to different jails within and outside the Valley, Geelani is being detained at a make-shift subjail at Cheshmashahi along the banks of Dal Lake.
