German woman molested in Goa, auto driver held

A 22-year-old German woman was allegedly molested at Canacona taluka in Panaji following which a local autorickshaw driver has been arrested, police said on Sunday. The accused, Chetan Namshikar, was arrested on Friday after the woman complained against him.

The offence allegedly took place on December 6, when the woman was returning after attending a party on beachside in Canacona taluka, police inspector Gurudas Kadam said.

As per the complaint filed by the woman last week, she had hired the autorickshaw to return to her hotel room, he said.

However, the accused drove the vehicle to a secluded place where he allegedly molested her, he said.

Kadam said the victim managed to run away from the clutches of the accused.

Later, police arrested the autorickshaw driver and booked him under relevant sections of the IPC for outraging modesty of the woman.

He was granted bail by a local court yesterday.
