Cleansing, toning and moisturising has been the age-old skincare regime. However, exfoliation, or removal of dead skin cells, should be an important part of your beauty treatment, too. There are many merits to facial exfoliation, but it’s important to keep these points in mind:

Do not over-exfoliate if your skin is delicate, sensitive or ageing.

Over-exfoliating in the summer season exposes skin to more damage.

Never use body scrub on the face; they can be rough for facial skin.

If you have an undiagnosed skin rash, exfoliation may aggravate the problem.

Some of the best exfoliates are available at home, such as: salt, sugar and oatmeal.

The goal of exfoliation should be to gently abrade the skin, not scratch it.
