“Actors who are supposed to be perfect in the art of speaking and pronunciation have such weak diction. It surprises me. Acting is like behaving and language is the medium. Let’s, blame it on the ‘Hinglish’ trend. But, I am still hopeful I will find good talent from the culture capital, may best thing be reserved for the end,” wonders Kapoor. He is in the city for the two-day audition for SaharaOne TV’s reality show Super Stars being organised at Chancellors Club.
“The pronunciation of Urdu should be like music to the ears. 20 years back, I was here to act in a movie based on Achala Nagar’s script. Those were some different days I wonder now. My acting manual You are the instrument, you are the player deals with this only.”
Those trained by him include Hrithik, Priyanka, Saif, Govinda, Kareena, Fardeen, Viveik Oberoi and John Abraham to name a few. He also acted in several films including Kranti, Sweekar and later turned trainer.
So what’s most important in acting?
“Words are just 7 per cent, 38 per cent is dialogue delivery and 55 pre cent is body language. But to be a superstar you have to have X-factor.” Acting or X-factor?
“Without acting talent, one can just be a model but to be a superstar a good actor has to have X-factor. This is why such good actors without this factor had commercial deaths. This includes, personality, charisma, attitude, dance and energy. And, this is what we are searching here — acting complimented with X-factor.”
“One crore prize money and a movie by SaharaOne is a big prize for the winner and we have to search for a superstar. They must be the best, who knows he is from Lucknow?” 120 candidates selected from various cities with go to Mumbai and will be trained by Kapoor and jury comprising of Urmila Matondkar and Shiamik Davar. About 650 contestant participated on day one of audition.
So, who is the rising star in his academy? “Raja Murad’s son and Sunny Singh (a kid who featured in the TV serial Dekh Bhai Dekh) are doing very good work,” asserts the acting guru.
