The victim, identified as Prachi Gaur, hanged herself from the ceiling fan in her first floor house in Kundli area in east Delhi at around 8.30 p.m. Tuesday. Police said Prachi, who had secured 76 percent marks in Class 12, was alone in the room and her parents noticed her hanging after half an hour.
They brought her down and took her to a private nursing home where she was declared dead.
"She was tense about her admission to Delhi University. She failed to secure (a seat) in the second admission list released in the morning (Tuesday) as she fell short of the qualifying marks," said Prachi's father Gopal Das.
"We do not think of any other reason behind her extreme step," said Das, who runs a provisional store on the ground floor of their house.
Police said no suicide note had been recovered.
