Two woman sorcerers, with the help of a male aide, amputated Babli Kumari's leg with a chopper at Barbela village on Monday night on the belief that worshipping the deity with blood of a virgin girl brings good fortune, Superintendent of Police Amit Lodha said on Tuesday.
The girl, who was battling for life in the Sadar hospital, had gone to meet the sorcerers for help to treat her ailing brother.
She was offered gram laced with drugs and jaggery to eat by the sorcerers who chopped off her leg after she fell unconscious, Lodha said.
Both the sorcerers, Devi Kumari and Lovely Mahto and their aide Bablu Mahto have been arrested, the SP said.
