Few days back, Vandana had gone to a mango orchard in Neelmaya village when three men spotted her at about 8 am. Seeing her in a semi-naked condition, they pounced upon her and stripped her.
Vandana tried to escape but in vain. The criminals lost their temper and started hitting her.
When they were unable to tame the 14-year-old tigress, the three criminals took out their knives and made another futile attempt to rape her. In the process, they succeeded in disrobing her but failed to rape her as she continued to fight valiantly despite the fact that the criminals had inflicted as many as 17 knife stabs on every part of her body.
Meanwhile, her five-year-old brother ran upto the village and asked for help. Seeing the villagers coming to the orchard the rogues disappeared.
District Magistrate of Lucknow, Ravindra Kumar Tripathi, has recommended her name for the Ntional Bravery Award.
