The incident came to light when some inmates of the Shatabdi hostel complained about the culprit to the varsity authorities, alleging that the girl took admission and deposited the fee taking advantage of her name’s similarity with a bonafide student of the varsity. The inmates demanded proper investigation into the matter and action against the culprit.
This led to a full-fledged inquiry into the incident by AU authorities led by the Dean Students’ Welfare (DSW) Prof Jagdamba Singh. The investigation revealed that it was a case of fake admission and the female student had used unfair means to deposit her fee and portray herself as an AU student.
Prof Jagdamba Singh said that the girl had managed to fool the authorities by depositing her fee using the registration number of a bonafide student who happened to be of the same caste as she.
“She had cleverly given her name and another bonafide student’s registration number to the clerk manning the fee counter and thus obtained a fee receipt on her name. She then used this receipt to get a place in the hostel,” he said.
Prof Singh revealed that the girl’s name had not even come before the admission committee for research scholars in the Hindi Department. He conceded that had the clerk manning the fee counter been vigilant, the girl could have been caught at the initial stage itself.
He said when information about the girl was sought from the head of the AU Hindi department Prof Satya Prakash Mishra, it was revealed that no student of her name was pursuing research at the department though an admission application in her name was available in the department records.
Prof Singh said that the ease with which the girl managed to deposit the fee will also be investigated by the varsity and added that strict action against the guilty will be taken soon.
