Gold exploration: AU to provide consultancy
ALLAHABAD UNIVERSITY (AU) experts are now all set to provide consultancy services for the exploration of gold and other costly metals for various firms. In a move that could prove financially beneficial for the teachers of AU's Earth and Planetary Sciences Department have been approached by a number of private and government organisations to avail the consultancy services besides also wishing to hire the budding geologists ready to graduate from the department.

In a move that could prove financially beneficial for the teachers of AU's Earth and Planetary Sciences Department have been approached by a number of private and government organisations to avail the consultancy services besides also wishing to hire the budding geologists ready to graduate from the department.
It is worth mentioning that the department has been offering consultancy services to the government institutions and Head of the Department Prof Jayant K Pati has been internationally recognised for his work in mineral exploration and analysis. Giving an outline of the consultancy services, Prof Pati said, "The first consultancy service was rendered to the Indian Air Force (IAF) free of cost in the interest of the nation. However the later services offered by the department to government organisations were charged with due permission of the then Vice-Chancellor Prof HR Singh."
"A mining company from Jharkhand has approached recently to avail the consultancy service in gold exploration and analysis. Besides the company representatives have also put forward their demand of mining geologists from the department", said Prof Pati.
"Earlier the income generated from the consultancy was equally shared with the varsity but now I have requested the VC Prof Rajan Harshe to grant permission to use the entire income in scientific works carried out at the department and to meet the expenses incurred in the consultancy services."
Detailing the advantages of services given to the different organisations Prof Pati said, "The industry interface has opened new avenues for the students and help to keep the spirit of Centre for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) alive which dwells upon practical application of the scientific advancements."
"The department has been approached by several organisations from across the world for projects but their offers were turned down owing to limited resources and infrastructure available at the department. However the department has concentrated on research works and earned reputation with the available resources", added Prof Pati.
