After that her eyes got glued to the idiot box to see the footage of Gagan’s feat. Gagan along with Abhinav Bindra won the gold medal in the men’s 10m air rifle pairs event and set a new Games record with a total of 1189. “I could just see his back on TV, but it was a great performance by my son,” said an elated Amarjeet, working as chief architect in Central Command.

Gagan, who is 8th in the World Ranking, did represent India in Athens Olympics also, where he finished 12th. “I was expecting a good show from him this time,” she said about Gagan, who would be celebrating his 24th birthday this May. “He (Gagan) was excited with his show there. I enquired about his scores also,” said a proud Amarjeet, who came to Lucknow just two years back. “He has got three more events to go and I am hoping more medals from him.”Employed as an assistant manager (commercial) in Indian Airlines at Hyderabad, Gagan was born in Chennai and started shooting only in 1997 after his family migrated to Hyderabad in 1985.
