Gorakhpur film festival logo released

PEOPLE’S FORUM coordinator Prof RK Mani Tripathi released the logo for the Gorakhpur Film Mahotsav scheduled from March 23 to 26 at the Conference Hall of DDU Gorakhpur University.

Members of the organising committee Dr Chandra Bhushan Ankur and Anita Agrawal said the film festival would be a milestone in eastern UP. Agrawal said documentaries based on social evils would be screened. Twenty films will be screened at the festival, admission to which is free.

Compensation ordered
ADDITIONAL DISTRICT judge-I Lalta Prasad has directed United India Insurance Company to pay compensation of Rs 1.15 lakh at six per cent rate of interest in favour of a person injured in a road accident.  Shyamji of Matthia village under Harpur Budhat police station had filed a case against the company. He said he was travelling by a jeep on December 7, 2000. The driver of the jeep parked the vehicle on the left side for sometime. Meanwhile, a tanker from the opposite side hit the jeep. He (Shyamji) received serious injuries due to the driver’s negligence. The tanker was insured by the United India Insurance.

Quota demanded
RASHTRIYA YUVA Ambdekar Chhatra Parishad members have demanded reservation for Dalits and backward classes in registration of research scholars in the university.

They faxed a seven-point charter of demands to the Governor. They also said reservation norms should be implemented in promotion of teachers in various departments.

Parishad president Sharvan Kumar Nirala said students of Dalit and minority communities failed to get proper representation in registration of research scholars. He demanded declaration of the merit list for research scholars’ entrance examination.
