Govt asks district admin to gear up

In the wake of fresh snowfall and continued inclement weather, the Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday asked all deputy commissioners, senior district officials to activate their manpower and machinery to ensure hassle-free movement of people.

In the wake of fresh snowfall and continued inclement weather, the Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday asked all deputy commissioners, senior district officials to activate their manpower and machinery to ensure hassle-free movement of people.

"All district officials should be in a state of preparedness so as to minimise disruption of essential services, making road connectivity at the earliest, restoring electricity supply, water supply and healthcare services," an official spokesperson said.

Local residents have been asked to take precautionary measures and in case of any emergency, deputy commissioners concerned and police control room be contacted for necessary assistance.

Deputy commissioner, Baramulla, Ghulam Ahmad Khawaja, has warned that weather system may disrupt transport till Friday. "Officers concerned have been directed to activate their manpower and machinery and the same may be kept in readiness so as to minimise disruption of services," the spokesperson said.

The deputy commissioner has advised people not to venture into slopes that are in avalanche prone zone during the same period.

Meanwhile, the consumer affairs and public distribution department has upped their market checking to stop any artificial hoarding.
