The new steps initiated by the government were likely to boost the sale of several departments like UP Handloom Corporation Limited (UPHCL) and many others engaged in the production and sale of the handloom and khadi sector.

Talking to Hindustan Times, managing director of UPHCL Chandrika Parasd Tiwari said compliance of the government directive would improve the financial condition of many departments, including the UPHCL.

Tiwari said a letter had been issued by principal secretary Govindan Nair in this regard and efforts were being made to persuade several government offices by making them aware about the services that could be provided through UPHCL.

The letter 981/18-502006-59 (SP)/1992 dated July 13, acknowledged that it was mandatory for all government departments to buy textile products only from government recognised agencies or those certified by the government like Sri Gandhi Ashram and UP Export Nigam.

It further stated that purchase from any other organisation by government departments would be treated as irregularity. vsr9000@yahoo.com
