The state government had "bypassed" Supreme Court verdicts on the issue and tried to coerce managements into an agreement. However, the government could not come up with a solution, Mani told the state assembly.

CPI, a constituent of the LDF, had voiced their opposition against the "unilateral moves" of the Education Minister who was showing "ugly haste" on all matters.

Parents and the entire student community were concerned over the issue, Mani claimed.

The introduction of semester system in graduation level had also led to confusion among the students as it was announced without prior notification, he said.
