The central government on Thursday decided to request the Supreme Court to modify its interim order on the sealing drive targeting commercial units in residential areas of the capital.
The decision was taken during an hour-long meeting of the group of ministers (GoM), constituted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to look into the sealing controversy.
The group was formed after four people were killed in police firing when protests by residents and traders in Delhi turned violent last month.
The government hopes that the application would provide the much-needed respite to certain commercial activities in residential areas.
"The law ministry and the urban development ministry would try to provide relief to the traders," said Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy.
"Filing of the application was one of the suggestions and the minute details would be worked out by the two ministries although there are practical difficulties in providing relief,"said Reddy.
He added that the 350,000 traders in the capital would be required to file an affidavit as per the court order.
