Gujarat Refinery, the country's biggest refinery with 12 MMTC refining capacity of crude oil located on the outskirt of the city, will dig up one more well in the stream of Mahi riverbed, about 20 kms from here, for meeting its daily water requirement.

This was being done owing to the failure of three wells dug up earlier in the riverbed under Panam water project, company executive director B K Mukherjee told PTI on Sunday.

The wells failed to give any water to the refinery due to salinity of water which is not useful in meeting the requirement of the refinery, he said.

At present only one refinery-owned well is operating in this riverbed through which the refinery is trying to meet its requirement of water.

This Indian Oil Corporation-owned refinery needs five to six million galons of water per day, according to Mukherjee.

Gujarat Refinery will spend Rs 100 crore for digging up of a well in Mahi riverbed and laying of a pipe line for taking the water.
