More than 300 prisoners including under-trials are being shifted to safer places after a sub-jail in Nadiad got flooded on Friday afternoon, Inspector General of Jail HR Gehlot said in Ahmedabad.
Following the flooding in the jail premises escort vehicles were requisitioned from nearby areas to transport the prisoners to safety but they could not go far as the roads have been completely washed out, the official said.
Temporary arrangements were being made to shift the prisoners to an SRP barrack in a near by place. Food supply and basic requirements of the prisoners were being taken care of by officials, he said.
The unprecedented rain situation has thrown life completely out of gear and the district administration and disaster management has been completely stretched and pressed into emergency rescue operations to evacuate more then two lakh people across Gujarat.
