The accident also claimed the life of pregnant Kshama Chopra, besides critically injuring her parents and husband.

The Gulati family has alleged a police cover-up in the case. His 14-year-old son had to discontinue studies as the family moved to Jammu, their native place. HT spoke to the family in Jammu Tawi.

Gulati worked as a driver for 10 years and later became a cab operator. The 42-year-old had been running a fleet of five cars for the past five years.

Sanjay used to live with his wife and son in Rajouri Garden in Delhi.

“After the sudden death of my brother, the responsibility of his family has also come upon me. His son studied at Kendriya Vidyalaya in Delhi but has dropped out. Sanjay had taken loans to buy cars but due to his untimely death, we are unable to pay the EMIs. As a result, the cars have been seized by the banks,” said Surender Gulati, brother of the deceased.

“It is difficult to think about our survival after the unfortunate incident. The police are also trying to cover-up the matter. We want justice and are not ready for a compromise,” said Vinita, Gulati’s wife.
