Protests broke out in the city today with local traders shutting down their establishments after a group of miscreants abducted a doctor from his chamber last night.
Dr M C Agarwal was taken away from his S J Road chamber in his own vehicle parked outside, police said today.
Inspector General of Police (Central Western Range) G P Singh, while suspecting the hand of some criminal gang behind the act, said "nothing can be said for certain till further investigations".
"All exit routes from the city have been sealed and we hope to rescue the doctor at the earliest", he added. Meanwhile, all shops and business establishments in the commercially-busy Athgaon area of the city remained shut in protest against the abduction.
The businessmen have demanded immediate unconditional release of the doctor.
