Gifted with a flowing strokeplay, Hashim Amla is a tremendous find for South Africa. He is the first South African of Indian origin to be playing their national side.

The deciding factor for his natural progression into the national team, were his four centuries in South Africa domestic cricket in the season 2004-05.
At the tender age of 21 years, he captained the Natal team and further South Africa at the 2002 Under-19 World Cup, and he also starred for South Africa A. He also toured New Zealand with the South African Under-19 team in 2000-01.

With such a record, he is touted to be the first non-white captain of South Africa.
