Dadasaheb Phalke award winner Dr Bhupen Hazarika, who suffered a mild cerebral stroke recently, is now completely cured and would be released soon from the private nursing home where he was admitted.

Hazarika, who addressed a press meet at the Guwahati Neurological and Research Centre (GNRC) where he was undergoing treatment, said he was feeling well and the doctors had declared him fit.

The legendary singer thanked the people for their prayers and also the doctors for the "wonderful treatment given to me during my illness".

"When I fell ill, it appeared that there was total darkness but now I find light all around me," he said.

Hazarika was taken ill during a Bihu stage function on April 17 and was later detected to have suffered a mild cerebral stroke.

Hazarika regaled reporters with songs and questioned them whether they thought he was ready to sing or not.

He said that he would take it easy for the next few months and concentrate more on writing than singing.

GNRC Chairman cum Managing Director Dr NC Borah said the maestro's treatment for stroke was over a few days ago and he was now relaxing and sleeping well.

He said the musical icon would be released soon and had been advised "complete rest for the next two months".
