HC forms committee on nursery interviews

Delhi High Court forms panel to examine the issue of interview for admission to nursery class.

The Delhi High Court on Monday constituted a five-member committee headed by CBSE Chairperson Ashok Ganguly to examine the issue of interview of children and their parents by schools for admission to nursery class.

A Division Bench headed by acting Chief Justice Vijender Jain granted six weeks' time to the panel for submitting its report and posted the matter for further hearing to October 17.

The bench passed the direction after noting that the joint coordination committee of managements of schools in Delhi had failed to evolve any alternative for the pernicious practice.

A PIL had been filed in the High Court by an NGO Social Jurist, highlighting the practice of the private schools to interview children of tender age and their parents at the time of admissions.

The organisation complained that the practice not only caused embarrassment and inconvenience to parents of the tiny tots, but also subjected the children to severe mental trauma.
