THE ALLAHABAD High Court has declined to interfere in the writ petition filed by Kesari Devi, former chairman of the zila panchayat, Allahabad. In the writ petition, Kesari Devi sought a direction from the High Court to the State Government for holding the election of the zila panchayat chairman in a free and fair manner. A Division Bench, comprising Justice Sushil Harkauli and Justice Vikram Nath, passed the order after hearing the petitioner?s counsel and government counsel.

In the writ petition, Kesari Devi sought a direction from the High Court to the State Government for holding the election of the zila panchayat chairman in a free and fair manner.
A Division Bench, comprising Justice Sushil Harkauli and Justice Vikram Nath, passed the order after hearing the petitioner’s counsel and government counsel.
The court stated that the State Election Commission and the district magistrate, Allahabad would take a decision regarding the petitioner’s grievance.
Kesari had alleged that the government was harassing the zila panchayat members of the BSP. Therefore, she filed a writ petition requesting the court to direct the State Government as well as district administration to hold this election in a free and fair manner.
Remand extended CHIEF JUDICIAL Magistrate (CJM), Allahabad, PK Jain on Wednesday extended the judicial remand of Manoj Kumar Singh, main accused in the murder of student leader Kamlesh Singh, till January 18.
Manoj was produced before the court on Wednesday according to the previous court order.
Acting upon an application moved by the police department, CJM Jain directed Manoj to appear before the court again on January 18.
To recall, student leader Kamlesh Yadav, also a candidate for the post of president of Allahabad University Students’ Union was shot dead in Baghara locality of Allahabad on November 24, 2005 evening. The incident took place after polling for AUSU concluded on the same day.
An FIR was lodged naming Manoj Kumar Singh, a student leader and former vice-president of AUSU, also a candidate for the post of AUSU president, as the main accused in the murder case. Besides Manoj, his brother, Deepak Singh, and driver, Chandan Pandey, were also named as accused in the FIR.
Election rivalry was alleged to be the cause of the murder.
This incident had rocked the city, as infuriated students indulged in arson and violence on November 25.
Later, Manoj, his brother and driver were arrested and remanded in judicial custody. They are presently lodged in the Central Jail, Naini and are produced before the court as per its order for extension of their judicial remand.
