Health bosses set for anti-JE drive

Director general, Medical Health, Dr B Nath reviewed the Health Department’s preparedness to conduct the drive.
In a chat with the Hindustan Times, she said medical officers had been trained and in the next three days ANMs would be trained to carry out the drive.
She said children from 1 to 15 years of age would be vaccinated with the help of Asha, panchayat members, village heads, primary school teachers and health officials.
To a question, Nath said four mobile teams would be pressed into service in each block. Besides, two refrigerators would be provided in each block to store the vaccines.
She said syringes and equipment were available at the headquarters. The drive would not miss any child between 1 and 15 years of age. The Health Department has allocated funds and vaccines to each district of Gorakhpur division. Around Rs 1.96 crore has been allocated to four divisions of Gorakhpur.
Sources said for Gorakhpur district, 1,80,705 vials of vaccines have been earmarked, along with 1,28,625 for Deoria district, 1,07,205 for Maharajganj district and 1,37,235 for Kushinagar district. Sources said 749 teams, including 125 in the urban areas, would be deployed. Nath said the department planned to issue a card to each child after vaccination, mentioning his or her name, age, date of vaccination and other details. The department will retain the counterfoil. Each team will immunise 125 to 150 children daily.
In the next phase from May 25 to 31, children of Siddharthnagar and Sank Kabirnagar districts will be covered.
After vaccination, children will be kept under observation for 30 minutes for a possible reaction. She stressed the need for awareness. The review meeting will continue on Sunday.
Director, Health, Ram Babu, Central Government official Dr Gyan Prasad, along with additional commissioner Jaswant Singh, were present in the meeting.
