Heavy exchange of fire reported from Manipur border

Heavy exchange of fire between insurgents and Assam Rifles personnel has been reported from interior Manipur bordering Myanmar, official sources said today.

There was heavy exchange of fire between insurgents and personnel of 8th Assam Rifles battalion at Ghatak area near
Sajik Tampak in Chandel district bordering Myanmar on Sunday, the sources said.

A spokesman of the Assam Rifles said insurgents had attacked the security personnel at about 6 am yesterday while
they were combing the area.

He said there was no casualty on their side.

Casualty on the side of the insurgents was also not known, he said.

Meanwhile, a statement issued by banned Revolutionary People's Party (RPF) claimed that the attack on the Assam
Rifles personnel was carried out by its armed wing, People's Liberation Army(PLA).
