Heavy rain forecast for Gujarat in next 48 hours

The Weather Department has predicted moderate to heavy rains with thundershowers at most places in Gujarat for the next 48 hours.

The Weather Department has predicted moderate to heavy rains with thundershowers at most places in Gujarat for the next 48 hours.

Officials at the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Ahmedabad said, “Heavy to very heavy rains are likely to occur at few places over Gujarat, Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli with isolated extremely heavy falls over Saurashtra and Diu during next 48 hours.”

They said that monsoon was active over Saurashtra, Kutch and south Gujarat region.

“Yesterday’s offshore trough from South Gujarat coast to Kerala coast also persisted today. Low pressure area over central Madhya Pradesh now lies as an Upper air circulation over North-West Madhya Pradesh adjoining Gujarat region,” IMD officials added.

Warnings have also been issued to the port and fishermen in the coastal regions.

“Due to active monsoon conditions squally weather is likely to prevail along the North and South Gujarat coast,” IMD officials said.

They have also advised the fishermen not to venture into the sea for the next 24 hours as the condition were very rough there with winds blowing at between 45-55 kmph from South Westernly direction and are likely to go upto 65 kmph.
