“I am worried by what I am seeing and reading. I would appeal to Annaji to end his fast and we will take forward his protest with all sincerity,” said Justice Hegde.

“There is a growing concern...over the way the government has responded to his fast, I agree, but he must not continue with it anymore,” he said.

“If something happens to him the entire movement would go the wrong way.”

Justice Hegde made it clear that his appeal was only confined to Hazare’s health condition and should not be mixed with the PM’s letter to the anti-corruption activist. He wondered why it had taken the government so long to take this approach.

Asked whether Hazare’s team had become rigid, Hegde replied: “I think the government created this situation. We tried to talk several times with the government, but their response was discouraging.”

Justice Hegde echoed the views of his other team members that Hazare’s team was not keen on talking to those who lacked political authority within the government.
