Heidfeld circled the 7.004-kilometer (4.352-mile) Spa-Francorchamps circuit the longest on the Formula One calendar in 1 minute, 45.388 seconds.
Toyota driver Jarno Trulli trailed the German driver by less than one-tenth of a second, with Force India's Adrian Sutil third ahead of Renault's Romain Grosjean and Toyota's Timo Glock.
