Hisar in Haryana on Sunday sizzled as mercury soared to a record 46.7 degrees celsius as heat wave swept the region.

While Hisar was hotter by six degrees than normal, Ambala also experienced a hot day at 40.8 degrees celsius, up by two degrees. The high at Karnal was 40.2 C, the Meteorological Department said in Chandigarh.
Blistering heat also swept Punjab, with Ludhiana registering a high of 42.4 C, up by three degrees.
Patiala braved the heat at 42.1 C, three above normal while the high at Amritsar settled at 39.4 C.
There was no relief from heat for the residents in Chandigarh as well as the maximum here touched 40.8 C.
