Hizb district commander killed in J&K

A self-styled commander of Hizbul Mujahideen was shot dead by security forces in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir.

A self-styled commander of Hizbul Mujahideen was on Monday shot dead by security forces in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir.

A joint operation was launched in Chansar forest area of Ramban district by police and security forces on Sunday night, Deputy Inspector General of Police Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban range Himant Lohia said.

The slain militant has been identified as Munir Pir alias Munawar, he said, adding one AK rifle, one pistol, grenades and magazines were recovered from him.

Munawar was killed during the operation which continued till this morning, he said.

However, there was no loss of life or injury to any one from our side, Lohia added.

Munawar was trained in Pakistan and was operating in Jammu region, he said.

Another militant, however, managed to escape, Lohia said, adding efforts were on to nab him.
