Atmosphere, the swanky store at Defence Colony, offers curtains and upholstery in 800 colours and 200 designs.

After successfully being in the export market (USA and Europe) for 17 years and establishing the parent company Himatsingka Seida (Seida in German means silk) as one of the biggest manufacturers of silk and silk blends (cotton, linen and polycotton), Shrikant Himatsingka, director, decided to foray the domestic market.

That’s how the home furnishing store Atmosphere came about with the first store opened on September 2003, in Bangalore. Now, with six stores running, Himatsingka wants to roll out 15 more all over India. “Atmosphere offers curtains and upholstery options in 800 colours and 200 designs,” he says. Aptly named, the store has everything to build the ambience for your home. “Choose whatever you like and it’ll reach your home within 48 hours. You don’t need to carry heavy bags back with you. The idea was to address the discerning customer who aspires to build an elegant home,” says Himatsingka. The future seems bright for Atmosphere with stores likely to be opened in cities like Ludhiana, Cochin, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Kolkata and Pune.

The D-19 Defence Colony showroom is done up tastefully with white walls. It doesn’t have the usual rolls but swathes put on hangers neatly that you can browse through. The store has interesting motifs, from classic, geometric, floral to contemporary, so there is something for everybody here.

“The underlined philosophy of Atmosphere is to give the well-heeled customer, who is aware of international trends and what’s in vogue, an ingenious way to do up their homes and in a way express themselves beautifully through the wide offerings at our stores. As we offer unstitched fabric we recommend stitching options to our customers as well,” concludes Himatsingka.
