GOOD BATTING and excellent bowling helped Hoshangabad team script a convincing six-wicket win against Youth Club Railway in the All India Mayank Chaturvedi Memorial Cricket Tournament ,being organised at Old Campion grounds, on Thursday.
After three consecutive high scoring matches, spectators witnessed small total on the fourth day. Railway team decided to bat first after winning the toss. But the disciplined bowling by Hoshangabad team never allowed opponents to score easily in the entire innings.
The duo, Imran and Nandkishore, made upper order of Railway to bite the dust as the team lost four wickets for 54 runs. Gajendra Singh was the only batsman to resist the superb bowling attack for sometime.
But the regular fall of wickets at the other end forced him to score runs quickly resulting in the loss of his wicket. While hitting over the infields, he was caught out at his individual score of 32 runs. Railway was all out for 141. Imran Khan, Nandkishore, Rajendra Verma and Sunil Pandey claimed two wickets each. Ritesh and Sumit shared one wicket each.
Chasing the smallest target of the tournament so far, Hoshangabad team comfortably registered win. Sumit Taneja was the highest scorer for Hoshangabad. His unbeaten 57 runs innings was studded with ten boundaries.
Chief guest of the man of the match presentation ceremony, and former Director of State Bank of Indore JP Jhanwar presented ‘HT Man of the Match’ trophy to Sumit Taneja. On the occasion, organising secretary Sushil Singh, Mahesh Prajapati, Shanti Kumar Jain and others were present.
