It is worth mentioning that incidents of shoot-outs and brawls have been taking place at the PC Banerjee and Diamond Jubilee (DJ) hostels of Allahabad University during the last two days reportedly owing to a dispute between AU student leaders Rinku Rai and Shubham Rai.
According to sources, exchange of fire took place between the two groups at the Diamond Jubilee hostel which continued later at the PC Banerjee hostel.
Shubham and his two companions were standing at the DJ hostel when Rinku Rai and his supporters allegedly opened fire at Shubham and his friends following a dispute.
Shubham and his friends ran inside the hostel and retaliated by firing back on Rinku and his supporters.
Rinku fled the spot with his companions in a car and were followed by Shubham and his group, sources said.
Later they met at the PCB hostel and again exchanged fire. The inmates ran for cover while two students, according to unconfirmed reports, received injuries during the shoot-out. Both the groups fled the spot before the arrival of police.
Cops raided several spots to nab the culprits but to no avail late in the night. The irked inmates assembled at the Colonelganj police station and demanded arrest of the culprits.
Till the time of filing of this report, no arrests had been made. Circle Officer Colonelganj, on being contacted, said, "We are carrying out raids at several places and arrests could follow soon".
